»Ottos Mops« ist eine vernetzte Echtzeit-Performance für mehrere Teilnehmer, die an einer Live-Studioproduktion vom heimischen Computer, im Internet-Cafe oder als digitale Nomaden mit Smartphone aus mitgestalten können. i2tv kombiniert das passive Broadcast-Modell mit partizipatorischen, vernetzten Umgebungen und unterschiedlichen Interfaces. Am Beispiel von Ottos Mops von Ernst Jandl wird ein Gedicht rezitiert und in gemeinsamer Aktion live aufgeführt.

The Wilderness Downtown, 2010

An interactive film by Chris Milk, realized by with Aaron Koblin. Featuring “We Used To Wait” . Built in HTML5

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Musikgruppe „Arcade Fire“ hat Google ein HTML5-Experiment gestartet, dass die Fähigkeiten von Google Chrome und dessen JavaScript Engine V8 zeigen soll. Das Projekt „The Wilderness Downtown” generiert in gleich mehreren Browserfenstern eine Art Musikvideo für den Titel „We Used to Wait“ in das, nach den Vorgaben des Nutzers, Bilder einer Stadt eingebaut werden. Aus einem live-Mashup von Google Maps, Streetview Bildern und den Laufszenen eines Music-Clips ist ein interaktives Musikvideo entstanden, das für jeden Nutzer anders aussehen dürfte.

SERGEJ IN DER URNE

Am 23. Februar kommt der Dokumentarfilm SERGEJ IN DER URNE bundesweit in die Kinos. Er folgt den Spuren eines nahezu vergessenen, von der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gesellschaft einst geförderten russischen Wissenschaftlers, dessen breites wissenschaftliches und gesellschaftliches Engagement erst schrittweise wieder entdeckt wird. Im Zentrum steht die Biografie des Mikrobiologens Sergej Tschachotin, der auf Empfehlung von Albert Einstein 1930 Stipendiat am Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für medizinische Forschung in Heidelberg wurde. Der Film hat u.a. auf dem DOK.fest in München 2011 den Preis für den Besten Deutschsprachigen Dokumentarfilm erhalten. Regisseur: Boris Hars-Tschachotin

Die Fotoanordnungen im Film regen an, dieses Projekt oder eine andere Familiengeschichte mit digitalen Mitteln zu erzählen.

Mobility Map

Canal*ACCESSIBLE is an online mapping project that shows Barcelona from the perspective of people who have difficulty walking. 40 handicapped participants use their camera-phones to document every problem and obstacle they encounter on their way through the city. The participants posted geo-located pictures of the architectural barriers and obstacles that they encountered in their daily journeys during 4 months in 2006.

The images are posted to a website and each location and obstacle is described and placed on a map. The result is a map of the parts of Barcelona that is inaccessibility for people confined to wheelchairs. 3,578 architectural barriers and stumbling blocks have been documented on canal*ACCESSIBLE since December 2005. Apartment unterzieht Worte und Sätze, die der Benutzer eingibt, einer semantischen Analyse und ordnet sie anschließend graphisch Räumen zu, die Themenfelder repräsentieren und als zweidimensionale Pläne visualisiert sind. Nach und nach entstehen auf diese Weise dynamische „Apartments“ aus verschiedenen, mit Worten „gefüllten“ Räumen und im weiteren auch ganze Gebäude und Städte. Die dynamische Anordnung der Räume und Gebäude zueinander repräsentiert Beziehungen zwischen den Wortinhalten. Es entsteht so eine architektonische Repräsentation von Bedeutungsbeziehungen und eine räumliche Kontextualisierung der eingegebenen Begriffe. Der Nutzer kann zusätzlich Themen auswählen, nach denen sich die Stadtkomplexe neu anordnen. Die zunächst zweidimensionalen, abstrakten Darstellungen können zudem in dreidimensionale Visualisierungen überführt werden.

Lichtreise: by Advanced Media students Christopher Pietsch and Luis Grass is a visualization of a specific holiday itinerary. What makes this work special, is how simple non-digital technology has been used to generate the map: the basis is a long-time exposure picture, which was lit with a physically moving batter-powered UV-LED light and a battery. Jim Campbell on Scattered Light, a 50-foot-long array on an 80-foot wide, 16-foot-high and 16-foot-deep structure supporting over 1,600 lightbulbs fitted with LEDs, which are programmed to display a low-resolution, moving image as individual pixels. Campbell has been playing with low resolution for several years now, experimenting with perception and the amount of information required to make an image recognizable in the human mind.

Word Tree

A word tree is a visual search tool for unstructured text, such as a book, article, speech or poem. It lets you pick a word or phrase and shows you all the different contexts in which it appears. The contexts are arranged in a tree-like branching structure to reveal recurrent themes and phrases.

The image above is a word tree made from Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream” speech, using the search term “I.” Font sizes show frequency of use, so you can see that among King’s many uses of “I,” the most frequent context is the phrase “I have a dream.”

Medienfluss: An all-encompassing browser makes the archive of the Internet platform netzspannung.org accessible. Two parallel media flows, one made up of images, and one of words, flow as large format data projections through the space. Using an integrated text-to-speech-module, the terms are spoken out by a computer voice. They build, alongside the representation of text and image – an acoustic description of the archive. The media flow, and the image based acoustic spheres, create the impression of a media space.
